AHEPPP: Family Engagement in Higher Education was established in 2008 as the premier national association for higher education professionals who work with the parents and family members of college students. AHEPPP is dedicated to facilitating meaningful and lasting support of campus-based personnel who interact with the families of college students in any capacity.

Our Mission

The mission of AHEPPP: Family Engagement in Higher Education is to support professionals in higher education who promote student success through informed parent and family engagement.

AHEPPP fosters the ever-important link between colleges/universities and their families. Through communication, research, best practices, and collaboration with university faculty and staff our national support network is sustained and our member colleges and universities, along with their students, flourish.

AHEPPP membership comprises 200+ colleges and universities and 900+ campus-based practitioners who work with the parents and family members of college students. Our members are generally responsible for coordinating:

  • Parent/Family Orientation
  • Parent/Family Publications, Newsletters, Webinars and other Communication
  • Parent/Family Websites and Resources
  • Family Weekend and Family Events
  • Welcome Weeks/Admitted Student Day
  • Family Associations/Councils
  • Siblings' Day
  • Philanthropy/Fundraising
  • First-Year Experience Courses/Seminars
  • Retention Programs
  • Parent/Family Data

Membership Experience & Communications Coordinator

This is an hourly, part-time, fully remote position (1099 contract) through the end of 2027. Funding past 2027 is contingent on meeting membership goals. It would be an ideal opportunity for someone seeking professional experience in the higher education or nonprofit sectors. The Member Experience & Communications Coordinator reports directly to the Director and the AHEPPP Board of Directors. 

The Member Experience & Communications Coordinator should expect to work 10 hours per week at a rate of $25.00 per hour. At this time, AHEPPP does not provide healthcare coverage or retirement benefits. Applicants should be willing to establish a flexible work schedule to meet the needs of the association. The Member Experience & Communications Coordinator may be invited to attend and support the annual conference in November 2026 and 2027. All travel associated with this position will be paid for by AHEPPP.

The Coordinator will work with the Director to implement membership and communications strategies to support AHEPPP. Responsibilities include communications and marketing, member outreach and customer service, membership processing and engagement, and general association support. 

Duties include:

Communications & Marketing

  • Manage the communications calendar
  • Produce newsletters and email campaigns
  • Manage social media platforms
  • Update and maintain the website
  • Create graphics and promotional materials
    • Partner with volunteer designer
  • Ensure brand consistency across communications
  • Promote conferences, webinars, summits, and organizational initiatives
  • Support online community initiatives and online store

Member Experience

  • Conduct outreach and member recruitment as directed by the Director 
  • Implement a data-driven member engagement, retention, and recruitment strategy and implementation plan as established by the Director and BOD
  • Welcome new members, associate members, and new strategic partners, helping manage relationships with those partners
  • Process membership applications and renewals
  • Respond to routine member inquiries
  • Track engagement and communication metrics
  • Maintain the online resource library
  • Provide excellent and timely customer service

Association Support

  • Participate in association events and meetings as needed
  • Other duties as assigned to meet the needs of the association

Qualifications:

  • Two or more years of work or internship experience in marketing, sales, or communication, or applicable education. Experience in association management, membership organizations, or higher education preferred
  • Experience managing short and long-term projects
  • Ability to learn association management software (training provided)
  • Proficiency in using technology, especially Google Workspace and Zoom
  • Experience in social media (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn)
  • Experience using digital records and record-keeping
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and meet outlined goals
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Collaborative and team-oriented
  • Flexible work schedule to fit the needs of the association
  • Travel to and support the annual national conference (travel expenses covered)

Technology Support:

AHEPPP will provide the employee a $50 monthly stipend for internet service.
