Job Summary

The Student Development Specialist II for Parent and Family Programs manages the Office of New Student & Family Programs by implementing programs such as Parent & Family Programs, family/guest orientation, and serves as the primary contact & advisor for the UT Tyler Family Association. This position will also serve as the Parenting Student Liaison for UT Tyler.

 

Major Responsibilities/Duties/Critical Tasks 

  • Coordinate and oversee various Parent & Family activities throughout the school year. This includes but is not limited to Family Weekend, Family Day, and ongoing hybrid events.
  • Develop comprehensive marketing campaigns as it relates to event schedule, marketing, and assessment of events.
  • Advise & enhance the Family Association including all management, evaluation, and assessment of members & events. 
  • Manage & develop quarterly at minimum the Family Association Newsletter. 
  • Coordinate and/or assist in the development of parent & family events in regional locations including but not limited to Dallas/Ft. Worth, Houston, and Austin. 
  • Provide support and collaboration with the Alumni Office to plan and implement alumni initiatives that engage parent/families, future students, and assist with student to alumni transition programs. 
  • Provide emergency notifications to parents and families. 
  • Serve as the Student Parent Liaison and assist enrolled students who are a parent or legal guardian of a child under 18 years of age, including but not limited to, providing support resources, connecting the student with other departments, and other assistance.
  • Manage the student parent database and provide annual reporting to the THECB. 
  • Support campus-wide programs hosted by other departments including events hosted by Admissions, Academic Success, Career Success and other Student Success areas. 
  • Assist with Student Engagement initiatives as required, including New Student Programs, Leadership, Service, Greek Life, Student Organization support, and university wide initiatives. 
  • Serve on University and division committees. 
  • Perform other related duties as assigned including but not limited to assisting Department of Student Engagement activities, working nights & weekends, and university wide events. 


Required Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree 
  • One year experience with Parent or Family Programs, New Student Programs, program planning, event development or event implementation and evaluation.

Preferred Education / Experience

  • Master's degree or current enrollment in a master's degree program, with preference given to degrees in student affairs administration. 
  • Two or more years in Parent or Family Programs, New Student Programs, or Student Activities program planning and evaluation.

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
