Position Summary:

The Associate Director for Parent and Family Program will direct and lead the Division of Student Life’s (DSL) parent and family program. This includes communications, programming, strategic initiatives, events, and provide leadership and administrative oversight for the Parent and Family Network (PFN) and Parent and Family Council (PFC).

This position will:

  • Collaborate with DSL and university colleagues to coordinate, plan, and implement annual Family Weekend activities, events, and communications.
  • Coordinate with Student Life Communications (SLC) and campus colleagues to deliver timely and relevant communications to parents and families.
  • This position will serve on various university and DSL committees to represent and promote the interest of parents & families.
  • Partner with the University of Iowa Center for Advancement to support fundraising, development, and philanthropy efforts.

Specific Job Duties & Tasks:

  • Direct the day-to-day administrative activities of parent and family programs at the University of Iowa, including: the Parent and Family Council and Parent and Family Network.
  • Manage all aspects of the Parent and Family Council, including membership recruitment, annual meeting logistics, meeting schedules, event participation and coordination, and external relations.
  • Establish and maintain strong partnerships with campus colleagues (Admissions, Office of the Dean of Students, Orientation and First Year Programs, Office of Strategic Communications, colleges) and Student Life Communications to coordinate and develop consistent, regular communications (newsletter, social media, print publications), to parents and families.
  • Promote the Parent and Family Network to parents and families of new students through a variety of communication mediums.
  • Research, develop, coordinate, and implement short and long-range goals and initiatives for Parent and Family Programs at the University of Iowa.
  • Work with the University of Iowa Center for Advancement to foster growth and enhance the strategic direction of the parent and family giving program.
  • Implement initiatives targeted at optimizing organizational efficiency. Facilitate and evaluate quality improvement efforts. Develop quality improvement tools.
  • Supervise and direct the work of a graduate intern.
  • Supervise and direct the work of bi-weekly student employees.
